The Question is on the Need for every person in the "Indian Union" to speak and understand hindi and communicate to another person in the wide land mass in the same language.

Logical Reasoning:
There was no Modern Day INDIA Nation State that includes all the diverse regions of modern day India as we know it before the British...and therefore there was never a national language before that...there were only independent provinces in the sub continent with each state running its own course and affairs..
Since India had a common imperialist, all the states are now together as an "UNION"...and India will continue to be a strong UNION...

Tamil Nadu is in the southern most part of India, and the state language there is Tamil..that does not mean that the people here disrespect the other languages...the general animosity reported towards Hindi could have arisen from the fact that the Linguistic Jingoists (Maybe with good intentions) tried to impose it on the entire nation..including regions that have no history of the Hindi language and consider them as equally alien as English was when the English arrived for imperial conquest..
As human beings, we can axiomatically state that "No language is superior nor inferior to another"
A Person does not need to know any particular language in this case Hindi to be referred to as an Indian..
All a Person needs to do to be an Indian is to respect a fellow Indian citizen..
The more languages you know the better it is for you...
After all India is not a homogeneous country but rather a cauldron of people of extremely diverse backgrounds and gene pools..
When we use the word "National" we always mean the word "Officially/Symbolically"..
The National Bird is "Peacock"
The National Game is "Hockey"
The National Flower is "Lotus"
Lets all remember that to have a stronger India, we need a stronger "Regional agenda with a national perspective"..
Sanskrit (One of the most rich classical languages ever) is not the mother of all Indian languages...however it has been the most influential language in the Indian union, because its words have been loaned in to usage in all Indian languages...
I have no problems with people learning Hindi or any other language on their own free will and choice....The world without walls and boundaries would be a better world..."Good Fences do make good neighbors"..But always remember.."Good Neighbors never need Fences between themselves"..
